Roamer X opens doors with integrated Mobile Access Technologies. Our integration with the HID Mobile Access® technology allows the employees of your organisation to open door to office buildings or spaces using their mobile device with the IBSS Roamer X app installed. With HID Mobile Access, they can use a mobile device as a credential to access doors and barriers and don't have to install HID Mobile Access App if they already use IBSS Roamer X.

Android or iOS phones can securely communicate with readers using a close-range “Tap” mode, or from a distance with HID Global’s patented “Twist and Go” mode if enabled for the reader.

There are the following preconditions for the HID technology to work:

  • Hardware. HID reader devices are installed at the door or barrier. Roamer X features depend on the configuration of these readers.
  • Users enrolment. Users and Mobile IDs are managed by the administrator via the HID Origo™ Management portal.
HID Origo®, HID Global’s physical access control cloud platform makes managing access control easy, creating a number of operational efficiencies, including the ability to centrally manage Mobile IDs. Simply send invitations and provision or revoke Mobile IDs over-the-air.
Read more about HID mobile access bets practices here: HID Mobile Access Best Practices White Paper | HID Global
  • OS compatibility. End users' mobile devices run on latest iOS and Android versions with the most recent Roamer X version installed.
Consult official HID documentation about supported devices here: HID Mobile Access - Compatible Devices | HID Global
  • Phone settings:
    • iOS devices have BLE setting enabled.
    • Android devices have NFC and BLE settings enabled.
  • Phone and Roamer X app state in the moment of entering the building or space. Both iOS and Android devices have the Roamer X application in one of the following states for activation to work (based on how HID technology is engineered):
    • Roamer X running in the foreground with the device unlocked.
    • Roamer X running in the background with the device unlocked.
    • Roamer X running in the background with the device locked, but the display on.

⚠️ Make sure that the phone is in one of the above states. Otherwise, we do not (nor does the HID documentation here: HID Mobile Access - Compatible Devices | HID Global) guarantee that HID Mobile Access will work, especially for Android devices as their NFC and BLE chips vary by manufacturer.

Using Mobile Access in practice

Should all preconditions be fulfilled, entering the building using Roamer X with the integrated HID Mobile Access technology looks like this:

  1. User brings their mobile device close to the reader.
  2. Mobile ID is transferred to phone over the air.
  3. Reader is activated through a close proximity “Tap” or longer distance “Twist and Go” experience, depending on how the reader is configured.
  4. Reader sends credential data to access control system.
  5. User accesses the secure space.

Mobile IDs have Seos® credential technology integrated that provides a secure, portable, adaptable, device agnostic way of managing secure identity information and applications. Seos technology enables the use of a mobile device as a trusted credential for physical access control. Read more about Seos in the official documentation from HID here: HID® Seos® | HID Global.

  2. Enable the Mobile Security Passes toggle.
  3. Tap +Add provider.
  4. In the slide-out panel, select HID as a provider.
  5. Provide Invitation Code or scan QR code that you have received from your HID welcome email.
  6.  Tap Submit.

Now, you can use your phone to enter spaces. Your security pass image is accessible in the side menu under User Preferences in Roamer X > Profile Preferences > Security Passes.
